It is worthy to note that the Philippine Agriculture Sector grew 3.95% in 2017 compared to the growth rate of 1.1%, 1.6% and 0.27% in 2013 to 2015 respectively. The Department of Agriculture made a significant jump of 2.8% but the Philippines remains laggard compared to its ASEAN neighbors in terms of agriculture production and investments.
Today, the government continuously develop solutions and projects that will help farmers and fisher folks address the rising challenges in food security, agriculture productivity and sustainability. Number of programs for farmers has been launched by the Department of Agriculture in line with the 10 point agenda of Secretary Pinol giving farmers access to training and financial aids allowing them to innovate and come up with ideas that would increase agri-productivity and profitability.
This year, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines partners with various stakeholders in the agriculture sector, international organizations, government agencies, private sector, farmer groups and cooperatives in organizing the “Sustainable Agriculture Forum 2018” with a theme “Enhancing Competitiveness and Inclusivity along the Philippine Agriculture Value Chain”.
